Is Sarah Palin Smarter than Me?

By Susanna Jade Angolani of ShivaDancer

I watched David Letterman last night as he interviewed Tina Fey of Saturday Night Live fame. Most Americans have seen her uncannily real impersonations of our illustrious vice-presidential candidate Governor Sarah Palin. I was impressed with her openness and willingness to talk about this unexpected role she has undertaken. The producer of Saturday Night Live, Lorne Michaels, realized the perfect match and convinced Tina to return to the show for these series of hilarious segments. Actually, she tried numerous times to decline the offer to portray Governor Palin, but when her own eleven-year-old son exclaimed "Mom's on TV with John McCain!" then she had to agree to the ruse.

She went on to explain that Sarah Palin is one of those people that are fairly easy to mimic as she uses so many known colloquialisms and mannerisms, like her constant familiar winks and references to "Joe Six-Pack" and now "Joe the Plumber." Her tendency to drop the final "g" in words gives her that down-home girl twang. "I'm talkin' about your taxes, and the way that Obama is goin' to raise them." Or, "ya know - ya gotta love ol' joe." And "Tell me it ain't so, Joe" referring to her debate with Senator Joe Biden.

The most revealing thing Tina said about Sarah was that she didn't feel she was any smarter than herself, which was not smart enough. Indeed. That a potential leader of the most powerful nation in the World is only as smart as Tina Fey or Joe the Plumber or me, Susanna Jade, is most alarming. We should require more than just a pleasing personality or an ability to charm the public. Personally I find her to be condescending and inarticulate with a propensity to follow her own agenda without respect to any other. But I realize she is the beloved "newcomer" of the conservative republican party and they are jumping on her bandwagon in droves.

John McCain proclaimed on David Letterman recently that he was totally and completely convinced that Mrs. Palin is our best candidate to be one heart beat away from the Presidency. Is he sane? Besides her strong appeal to the conservative base, how does she contribute to the ticket? She is strong in her convictions to reform America according to her small town small-minded ways including reversing Roe vs. Wade, drilling into the Arctic Wildlife Preserve, increasing nuclear energy plants regardless of the waste problem, and maintaining tax cuts for Fat Cat corporations. She is very good at being that "attack dog" for McCain against Obama repeating ad infinim the terrorist accusations and ties to undesirables.

Her "thrust" into greatness belies her immense naivete concerning world affairs, economic dynamics and real "plumber Joe" issues. She is a McCain puppet, indeed a puppet of the party, willing to do and say anything to support the ticket and win the election. She, like McCain, are two of the most dangerously over-ambitious candidates we have witnessed in recent history. I know that her/their supporters see a very different picture of these two - after all, George W. Bush has been our leader for eight years. Perhaps this nation deserves to be led by less than exemplary, intellectually mediocre individuals. It is my fervent wish that this time around the American public sees beyond the lies and the masks, understands the gravity of our economic, environmental and spiritual well-being and elects leaders that are truly experienced, philanthropic, compassionate and yes, definitely more intelligent than Tina Fey, Sarah Palin and me!

Contributor's Note

Ever since her appearance in the national media she has mesmerized, charmed and misinformed the masses. May we realize her transparency before John McCain has a chance to die early on as President due to a recurrence of a nasty cancer.

I fear that you have been swayed by the hatchet job the left leaning media in this country has done on Sarah Palin. I'm from Tennessee and have a rather pronounced Southern accent that I am quite proud of. People from all regions of the US have different brogues and colloquialisms. The media jumped all over her wink and her frank way of speaking. These do not diminish her intelligence.

I would rather have someone who has a strong conservative ideology and will take the country in the right direction, than someone with a higher IQ who wants to lead us down the road to Socialism.

Jim, I fear you too have entered into the mystique and charm of Sarah Palin, it is certainly not her intelligence. She had some time to realize where and when she should speak, and she is doing better, but her experience and attitude do not in any way give me any confidence in her potential leadership skills. Thanks for the comment, anyway.

I like to look at all sides of the issues. I followed you here on Qondio and look forward to your future intels. By the way, is that picture above one of Sarah Palin, or Tina Fey?

Sarah Palin didn't ask to be the vice presidential candidate. She was asked and stepped up to the plate. That takes guts. By the way when are you running for public office?

Sarah who? Oh her, yesterday's joke candidate. My how the world has changed, and now the American poor [who the world aren't supposed to know about] are going to get health care they previously haven't been able to afford. That some find that threatening and 'the path to socialism' is truly sad, and I might add, un-christian. Didn't Jesus criticise those who walked by on the other side in the tale of the good Samaritan? Any Samaritans here? Hands up? Hmm, seems I'd make a better Christian than Jim, except I'm an atheist.

Not being American and knowing Obama was going to win months before he did, I only have one issue with Palin, she thinks it's just fine and dandy to shoot wolves from helicopters, made it legal in Alaska, and done it herself. I find that really unforgiveably sick. The wolf is a beautiful creature, at home in its environment, top predator which means it keeps the herds of prey animals healthy by killing the old, injured and weak. Their presence always signals a healthy ecosystem and they [unlike the naked ape] control their numbers according to food sources. Hard years mean they won't breed. Clever huh? Palin blows a hole in them with a high velocity rifle from a safe distance, that makes her a sick bitch.

I don't think it does any good to get personal in our comments on Qondio. I do feel a need to comment about FOOL on a Hill being a better Christian than I. I made two donations over the last few weeks to our church's food ministry of over $4,000.00. We are a church of about 70 people and we fed over 5,000 people in our area last year.

The difference between a Liberal and a Conservative is that a Conservative sees a need and uses his own money to try to do something about the need. A Liberal sees a need (even though sometimes it doesn't really exist) and tries to confiscate money from their neighbors to solve the problem

I'm not a big fan of Sarah Palin. She is probably smarter than Joe Biden and would have been better qualified as VP than him. Even for President, I would have voted for her over Obama, but I feel there are more qualified Conservative candidates that I will vote for in the next primary election.

Jim, your christian charity is all for one purpose, to improve your chances of getting into what you believe is waiting good christians, heaven. If I donate to charity, and I do but I don't make a song and dance of it, I get nothing out of it other than the satisfaction that I helped somebody. Since I don't believe in god or any of the superstitious nonsense from ignorant ancient times I can have nothing to gain from this while you are doing it totally for yourself, without the poor how would you impress your god? By the way, I'm sure people from all over the US have different brogues, I'm just not sure what the relevance is to this subject since a brogue is a robust walking shoe, what did you think the word meant?
