Inflammatory Breast Cancer
I thought I had heard about most types of cancer, but today I received an email from a good friend about inflammatory breast cancer, or IBC. It is little known in the USA or elsewhere, yet it affects 1 - 5% of women with breast cancer in this country. Many times it is first diagnosed as an insect bite as it causes inflammation (duh) around the breast tissue appearing red and swollen, like a bee sting or spider bite. Inflammatory breast cancer is a rare but very aggressive type of breast cancer in which the cancer cells block the lymph vessels in the skin of the breast. It is often not detected by a mammogram, nor is there a lump that can be felt. These are the signs we are taught since puberty to look for when examining our breasts. I saw some pictures of the inflamed breast and it looks very painful, and very wrong. It often occurs in younger women who are unsuspecting of any serious problems with their sore, red breasts that often have inverted nipples. It seems unlikely that anyone could bear such a pain and not wonder what is really going on. But, this cancer usually goes undiagnosed because it is not recognized. It's especially egregious that some doctors are not aware of the symptoms and misdiagnose the inflammation as a lesser problem prescribing antibiotics that only weaken the body's natural immune system. There doesn't appear to be rhyme or reason to the cause of the cancer, only symptoms and treatments including chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. By the time it is detected, the cancer is often in an advanced stage and death is likely as it has spread to other organs. I'd like to know the WHY of these cancerous growths and occurrences. Are we just too unbalanced, too dependent on pharmaceuticals; are young women who take birth control pills being subjected to a rash of unexpected side effects - like a huge red rash on their breasts called IBC? Really, I believe we need to be informed, change our eating habits, hydrate with low pH water, create an alkaline environment in our bodies that can naturally combat cancer, and stop taking so many damn drugs - the legal kind. I urge all women to look into this mysterious killer and pay attention to changes that don't make sense. Listen to your bodies, and your intellect, and be AWARE!

Contributor's Note
I'm constantly amazed that so much focus is on treatment rather than prevention. Be kind to your body - eat well, exercise, pay attention to hydration and alkalinity. There is more to staying well than taking prescription drugs.
